Our Class of 1968 50th Reunion was a huge success! Here's a summary of what happened, and what's coming next.
Be sure to check out the pictures on our 50th Reunion Photo site.
The reunion took place on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Steel Club (formerly Silver Creek County Club) from 6:00 - 10:00 pm. We had a wonderful time together! Those who attended were glad that they did, and many who missed the event wished they had joined in the fun. It was great to catch up with people you haven't seen for years.
In addition to the reunion, we had a Friday Nite Happy Hour Get-together at Bar Louie in the Promenade Shops at Center Valley. You can see pictures from that event, too, on the 50th Reunion Photo site.
On Sunday after the reunion, we hosted three more events that allowed classmates to keep the connections going.
Brunch at Hellertown Diner
We reserved the room in the back where we all met together for brunch and unbeatable conversation.
Black River Farms Vineyard and Winery
Wine always helps bring friends together, and we were able to sample many of the outstanding wines made from grapes grown on the Black River Farms property (who knew Lower Saucon had great grape growing soil?). We met at the winery at after brunch.
Lost Tavern Brewing
We wrapped up the weekend with some great fun at Hellertown's Lost Tavern Brewing. In addition to the beer and food, the group that gathered had quite the intense shuffleboard competition. Fortunately, I don't remember who won - but I'm sure someone will remind me. What an excellent weekend!
We gave classmates the opportunity to donate to a class fundraiser. The fundraiser turned out to be quite successful. We raised over $5,000. After some intense debate and serious consideration, the Reunion Committee decided on the following donations:
Dimmick Park Bench
We purchased a park bench and plaque for Dimmick Park. The cost for the bench was $1,348.00. Check the pictures below.
Fire Department Donations
We also donated $2,000 to Dewey Fire Company and $2,000 to Lower Saucon Fire Rescue. We felt that donating to the fire companies would help out the community in the most effective way possible.
Thank you so much for your generous contributions.

Speaking of donations, we were most fortunate to receive an anonymous donation from one of our classmates to fund the creation and installation of a LARGE panther statue at the Saucon Valley High School football field.
A team of classmates, headed by Gary Peters, worked with a bronze casting company to get the panther created. They first created a wax model of the panther. We had a lot of input into what the panther looked like and how it was displayed. It took several attempts to get the face of the panther just right (not to mention the color of the tongue).
Once the statue was ready, it was delivered to the stadium and stored inside until the concrete base was poured. Once the base was ready, a group of classmates fastened the panther to the concrete. They also coated the panther with a product that protects it from the weather.
They also mounted the granite marker on the concrete base.
A dedication ceremony was held during the homecoming football game. We had a nice turnout from our classmates as the Class of 1968 was recognized for the donation. Stop by the high school stadium and check out our PANTHER!

If you'd like to become a part of the committee, you're welcome to join us. We meet every month or so, just to get together and share some laughs and conversation.
The words "Reunion Committee" are in quotations because we are more of a group of friends than an actual committee. We invite all of our classmates and their significant others to join us at our "meetings."
